S2S Research · Experimental Subseasonal Forecast

What is S2S Forecasting?
Subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) forecasting bridges the gap between short-range weather prediction and seasonal forecasting, typically focusing on timescales of two to six weeks ahead. At these timescales, forecast information can provide insights relevant to longer-range planning and research in areas such as agriculture, water management, energy, and disaster-risk management.
Explore the Forecasts
The platform provides weekly forecast maps from Week 1 through Week 6, covering:
- Rainfall
- Temperature
- 850 hPa winds
- Large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns
Users can explore the evolution of predicted conditions across India and examine how forecast signals develop over the extended-range period.
S2S Forecast Reports
Alongside the forecast maps, the platform provides research-based S2S forecast reports that summarize notable developments in the upcoming weeks. These reports provide interpretation of large-scale weather patterns, forecast signals, and potential areas of interest identified from the model forecasts.
Where relevant, the reports also discuss cyclogenesis potential and the development of organized weather systems, providing an extended-range perspective on conditions that may contribute to tropical or regional cyclone formation.
Research & Experimental Product
These forecasts and reports are experimental research products developed to support research, exploration, and evaluation of subseasonal forecasting. They are not official weather warnings or operational forecasts and should not be used as the sole basis for safety-critical, operational, or other important decisions.
The platform is part of ongoing research into AI-driven and data-driven approaches to subseasonal-to-seasonal prediction, with a particular focus on forecasting over the Indian region.
